Rolling Marble Guest House Today

The Rolling Marble Guest House acquired its name shortly after the house was purchased. Advice was related: "Take a marble along when you're shopping for an old house. Place it on the floor and if you find that it rolls--things aren't level--don't buy the house!" Fortunately, it was too late for innkeepers Karen Gibbons and Peter Reich to follow that bit of advice. For now, after their loving renovation, the marbles may still roll a little, but the charm and beauty are completely restored. The secluded, riverfront setting, the architectural integrity of the building and the unique set of challenges, all inspired the innkeeping journey.

The journey began as their lives together began; Karen and Peter came upon the house the same year they were married, 1985. They purchased a house that perhaps needed the wedding of their skills as artist and designer to make it the magical haven it is today. Karen, once a painter, now sculptor has worked as a colorist, an art coordinator and an art educator. Peter is an industrial designer who's work has led him to the business of producing a remarkable folding bicycle of his own design called the Swift folder. Together they spent five years transforming this forgotten gem into a very special place. The Rolling Marble Guest house gives them the opportunity to combine their knack for pleasing people with their hands-on skills and love of nature. The journey continues after ten years of innkeeping. The hospitality staff now includes eight year old Lukas, his twin sister, Skylar, and brother Trevor, who is five.
